Patriotism/nationalism may not be the primary element of the movie, but it is present non the less. In the scene where Nick is being questioned about his origin by the other American in Vietnam, after being asked if the name was Russian, Nick fully aware of his heritage still said that it was American, Nick knows where his family came from, but he also knows where his homeland truly is. People may argue that Nick said that just because he was scared, since American and Russian relations weren't on good terms back then, and it may even be true, but viewers had an entire hour to get to know the characters and the whole city is the perfect example of assimilation (true multi-culturalism. Filmed 30 mins. from my home town. Precisely how it was back then. It's as if Mr. Cimino actually lived there. in awe.
This is definitely a timeless Classic... I dont know how many times ive watched this Movie throughout my Lifetime... I know i can watch it endless more times... Oof, my hans are tied now. Here's to Nick. This trailer completely spoils the entire film. I liked the part when the title said THE DEAR HUNTER. How many time for my to see this movie again and again the questions come up to me, what going on with the Group of all guy stand by for Health medical systems and the devil nurse that really true and cool blood to abuse the patients day by day from the medicine in the nightmare in that place.
